The Linden Heritage Foundation (LHF) Board of Directors in April 2019 reviewed the history of the near four year effort to restore the Old Linden Firehouse.  (see here) http://lindenheritage.org/whats-the-future-of-the-1939-linden-firehouse-whats-next-for-downtown/

It was decided then it would be cost prohibitive even with grants and available tax credits to restore the Old Firehouse.  No one since has stepped forward expressing any interest in the structure or the plans/specifications to convert the building to a commercial or residential use.

The building and its interior have recently been inspected by an engineer and determined to be structurally unsound.

The Board, based on that finding, has elected to remove the roof and existing walls of the Old Firehouse down to the concrete slab and retaining walls.  Labor and equipment for this work will be donated.

Once the work is completed, the LHF Board will seek input on future use of the Old Linden Firehouse site.  An option being reviewed would incorporate the 1934 Water Tower and Old Firehouse into an outdoor music venue.

The Annual Meeting of the Membership of the Linden Heritage Foundation will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Senior Citizens Center (507 S. Kaufman St., Linden) starting at 3:30 pm.

The Linden Heritage Foundation (LHF) proudly supports our Linden-Kildare Schools.  The majority of our members are graduates of LK who have very fond memories of the school and its great teachers.  Now, more than ever, our teachers and students deserve our support which was the motivation behind our recent fundraiser.

Over 30 individuals made donations to “Let LK Shine” to accomplish its goal of raising $12,000.00.  Many donors contributed  in memory or honor of a teacher they had when attending LK.  It seems that great teachers have impacted thousands of lives in a profoundly significant way.

The Foundation presented two checks to LKCISD with Keri Winters, Superintendent, responding:

Our teachers have been informed that a $100 stipend ($6,000.00) has been added to enhance funding available to purchase classroom supplies the cost of which have increased in this new learning environment. The other $6,000.00 has been added to the LKCISD budget for enhanced playground equipment and outdoor games for the elementary and junior high including  new balls for soccer, basketball, football, volleyball and dodgeball; tetherball poles, balance beams, “gaga pits” and climbing walls.

Jo Anna Duncan, LHF President, thanked LKCISD for providing a quality education to the children of Linden in these unprecedented times.

Linden Heritage Foundation makes a contribution of $6,000 for “Let LK Shine” fundraiser.

Ms. Duncan, a former LK teacher, commented, “We are aware of the impact of closures in our community including the LK schools.  However, the staff, students and families are making amazing efforts to provide educational, nutritional, and emotional support despite the challenges.”

In acknowledging the donation, Ms. Winters said, “We are looking ahead to reopening our schools and are pleased to partner with the Linden Heritage Foundation in “Let LK Shine”.

Mary Dowd, LHF Director, stated, “We are excited to join with the community in being a part of the progress being made at LK Elementary.”

During this period of community sacrifice, uncertainty, and economic downturn, the Linden Heritage Foundation (LHF) wants you to know that we are still working to preserve the economic and cultural heritage of our beloved hometown.

Like you, we are looking forward to a time when we can gather for live music at Music City Texas, shop and dine in downtown Linden, celebrate Wildflower Trails (this year would have been the 50^th anniversary), worship in our churches, and attend sporting events.  In the future we will all appreciate and treasure those experiences even more.

As you are aware, LK schools have been closed. However, the staff as well as students and families are making amazing efforts to provide educational, nutritional, and emotional support despite the challenges.

LHF would like you to look ahead with us to the reopening of our schools.  We ask you to think of our children and grandchildren as part of a new project – “Let LK Shine” – which would be in partnership with the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District (LKCISD). 

“Let LK Shine” seeks to raise $13,000 for LKCISD budgeted items for the next school year:

1. $6,000 to enhance funds allocated by LKCISD for new playground equipment for the 2^nd– 5^th grade campus;
2. $100 stipend for each teacher ($7,000) to supplement funds allocated in the LKCISD budget for teaching supplies.
